Summer Reading

Dear Parents and Students,

The goal of summer reading is to reinforce the reading habits and skills acquired in the previous grades and to build on common prior knowledge when introducing new reading strategies and literature themes.

As the California State Standards state:
One of the strongest predictors of reading comprehension and of vocabulary development in particular is the amount of time students spend reading quality literature. (Anderson, Wilson, and Fielding).

The books chosen are rich in vocabulary and contain classic themes, which align with those in the Imagine It! language arts program. The students will be tested on these books in September.
