Co-curricular and Extra Curricular Opportunities

  • Spanish – TK through 8th grade with an early morning advanced class for native and fluent speakers. Conversation emphasis in early grades with more complex writing and grammar beginning in 4th grade.
  • Arts – students receive music and art instruction weekly and are encouraged to join the school choir. Our yearly school-wide spring concert gets top reviews!
  • 8th Grade Washington D.C. Trip – optional spring break trip coordinated with World Strides. One week trip aligned to US history curriculum (parent cost involved)
  • Science Fair – Yearly science fair displays of student selected topics covering a wide range of scientific inquiry and exploration. Written reports and evidence of work done are displayed, generally during Open House and we also participate in the deanery science fair.
  • Academic Decathlon – LA Archdiocese sponsored event with events in numerous areas
  • Odyssey of the Mind — national competition of teams given specific problem solving tasks/projects
  • Chess Club – after school club with invitational competition
  • Mad Science – after school club
  • DramaManiacs – after school program culminating in off campus performance
  • Lego Robotics – after school program for all grade levels
  • Mathletics – online resource engaging students with math concepts and skills at their own pace and level.
  • Certificate of Merit – Each year, teachers volunteer their time to work with students who are interested in a specific subject area and would enjoy developing a project ranging from such examples as Beatlemania music to the scientific theory of the universe. With“guide on the side” teacher assistance, students create projects that are later displayed at an evening event. This is entirely optional but merits special recognition.
  • CYO Athletics – open to 3rd graders (track only) through 8th grade in volleyball, football, basketball and track. Assumption traditionally is very competitive in our region, bring home numerous championships in track and volleyball.
  • Drugs, Health & Safety Education – At developmentally appropriate grade levels we provide courses that last from one day to a week in length. These courses have a specialized focus to support the well-being and health of our students. They include:
    • Miles to Go drug and safety information for 7th/8th graders,
    • Cyber Safety class for all grade levels,
    • How to be an Ally -anti-bullying course taught by the Anti-Defamation League
